The Passion of Christ The Passion of Christ
Directed by Mel Gibson
Rated: R

My rating: Not to be missed, but not for small children

It feels odd, categorizing this as a movie. It didn't seem like one.

I don't think my regular methods of rating are going to do this film any justice, to be honest. So instead of critiquing it (which I doubt, considering the profound effect it had on me, I can do anyway) I will say this.

I had a piece of gum in my mouth when the previews ended. I had a piece of gum in my mouth when the final credits of this movie rolled. I'm not sure I had it in my mouth in the middle. Somehow, I just forgot to chew.

This movie was made to have an impact on us, and it did. So much has been said already. So instead of trying to come up with something new, I'm going to say the first thing that popped in my head as I was walking out to my vehicle afterwards.

They aren't my words. They're Chris Tomlin's. It's a praise chorus that I never really fully understood until I had this experience, I think.

I'm forgiven, because you were forsaken.
I'm accepted, you were condemned.
I'm alive and well, your spirit is within me, because you died and rose again.

Amazing love, how can it be-
That you my KING would die for me
Amazing love, I know it's true
And it's my joy to honor you
In all I do, I honor you

And I hope, from now on, every time I say those words, I remember the grueling scenes I have seen in this movie.
