Matt West - Happy

Matthew West - Happy

I'm giving credit back to Susan from GrassrootsMusic.com... "I hate to state the obvious, but this CD really does make me happy."

West has a unique perspective on the world that I hope, at times, I have. It's spiritual, but it's not religious. Sort of a "God loves you more than you can imagine... now what are you going to do about it?" type thing. I like that. It's a fresh departure from typical Christian music. Nothing WRONG with typical music, mind you... getting serious about worshipping God is something that I think is long past... but Matthew West dares to take us somewhere else. His music reflects a deep faith in a different way. In a way that challenges you not to take yourself too seriously, lest you forget the wildness and unreasonable joy of the Christian faith.

Songs like "The End" maintain a defined message, while keeping the humor interjected at just the right pace. "More" celebrates the wild, unbelievably huge love of the Universe's creator for lil' ol' us. Then, lest we should forget that God has a serious side too, West gives us "The Lie" and "You Know Where to Find Me." Seldom has balance been so well done.

It's something nobody since Hokus Pick has done well, and now somebody is. And as a former Hokus Pick fan, I'm thrilled to see some one who does it, and does it well. Keep it light, Matt... the world needs to know that, while we are the light of the world, we take ourselves lightly too.
